Re-use and recycling in Haddington – what to do with old stuff
There’s loads of ways of doing this – buying second hand stuff, selling or giving away your old stuff when you’ve finished with it, and repairing your broken stuff. And for stuff that really has had it’s day, many things can be recycled. Also, if you are buying new, look for recycled products. Without a market for these, there’s no point reycling anything.
This is what is available in Haddington that we know about. (Sustainable Haddington doesn’t endorse any particular business. It is up to you to decide if what they offer is right for you.) If you offer a service which you’d like included, please contact us.
Getting Second-hand and recycled stuff
Paper – recycled paper for printers is available at the Post Office – maybe other places, if so let us know!

Clothes, shoes, books, toys, bric-a-brac
There are six charity shops in Haddington where you can buy a wide range of second-hand stuff, for a fraction of the new price. See below for details.
Online
East Lothian Freecycle is an online service that arranges swaps - you can post items you no longer need, and look for things you want. There really is an amazing variety of stuff offered - things you’d expect like fridges or children’s toys, but also magazine collections, paving slabs, reed organs, you name it. Join on http://www.freecycle.org/group/UK/Scotland/East%20Lothian . You have to sign up to Yahoo Newsgroups to join, but it’s a good way of getting stuff you want and passing on stuff you don’t.

I have lived in Hill Wynd, Haddington just over a year and find recycling glass, paper, sometimes cardboard no problem but plastic!!!!!!!!!!! yes there is now a small recycle bin outside council offices, not big enough for large plastic milk cartons. I have my own recycle bags can I leave these out for recycle lorry or where can I get green blue boxes from?
